A few wild animal shots from the 600 pictures I took on my trip.

This deer saw me but did not seem to concerned. I took this at the maximum length of my lens at 300mm. I then cropped the photo. Still I was about 100 meters away. Photo taken at Salt Point State park.

A pelican over the ocean in the Redwoods National Forest. Photo taken at maximum lens length at 300mm. Photo not cropped.

With almost 50 pictures that I want to put up from this trip I decided to organize them by category
Several of these photos are from the Sonoma Coast in Northern California

This was an accident. I bumped the camera on a long exposure and blurred the photo. I liked what happens it makes the image more abstract art and photo.

Great shot of a wave as it hit a rock before sunset.

This shot you can see the plants that live on this rock. It was impressive that they were able to stay on with such large waves hitting them.

Love the motion in this picture

This is a shot of the Williamson River. This long exposure was taken in Collier Memorial State Park just north of Klamath Falls.

Image of a mud pot in Bumpass Hell Lassen Volcanic National Park. The steam and all one color make this an image that is difficult to identify and that is why I like it.

I really liked the way the water flows around this limb. The next shot focuses on the area that was catching my attention

I sped up the shutter speed to capture the affect the water was having. I like how the water hits the limb and roles back into the stream.

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range Image is a technique that allows a greater dynamic range of luminance. What this does is allow the all areas of the photo to be illuminated.

These photos show what the camera captured in order to expose correctly for the sunset and what the picture looked like exposed correctly for the foreground. In a HDR image several picture with different exposure are taken called bracketing. These different pictures are layered by a program like Photoshop CS4 which takes the parts of the pictures that are exposed correctly and adds them to the photo. What is produced is a picture like the above photo where everything is in the picture is properly exposed.

Here is my second HDR image. I think it is an even better image. I was able to figure out how to use the tone curves in CS4.

October 7th
Been on the road since last Wednesday. I have some 500 to 600 pictures to go through. The road trip has both mountains with snow and ocean views. I saw a lot and have some amazing pictures to share. Will be home tomorrow October 8th. In Grant’s pass right now too tired to drive all the way home. Staying
at a Super 8 not bad but Denny’s was bad. I have not been there in years and now I remember why. Service was good food was terrible.

I did add two pictures to prove that I had a vacation. More to follow

Sorry Carmen but I wanted a face with your jewelry. Plus this is a good photo of Carmen.
I spent two days in Corvallis, Oregon home of Oregon State University and 51,110 people. The city was founded in 1849 and incorporated in1857. Carmen moved to Corvallis in August of 2008.
I have known Carmen for 20 years. We met on the first day of high school in if I remember right, Sex Ed. We quickly became very good friends and spent most of our time together. In the beginning she watched as I would awkwardly fall for unattainable women. I can only imagine what she must have thought all those years ago. She continued to stick around because I would make her laugh with all of my drama, and intense feelings, and reactions. Yes, I know it was high school, but I was intense and dramatic even for a teenager. Finally after high school I realized that she was a very special person and the best friend anyone could ever want. We never did date and for good reason she was not my type. She understands me like no other person can and am grateful for her friendship.
Over the last 20 years we have seen each other at our best and worse and have always been there for each other, even when in different states. That is why when she asked me to take some shots of her jewelry I quickly drove to Corvallis and spent two days on a photo shoot . It also gave me a a chance to see her daughter Mali. What a special kid.
Carmen’s jewelry has been a life long interest of hers. As long as I have know her she has been making necklaces. I have two myself that she made at my request. Recently she decided to start selling them on line. She has pictures on her face book site and this web site (soon to be added). She was not happy with her photos and wanted me to some for her. I jumped at the chance this is a different type of photography and I am always up for a challenge.
I took over 100 pictures of about 15 necklaces and earrings. These were my favorite shots. It was important to me to make sure that the shots showed off her talent and expressed some of her personality. It was her choice to shot outside she helped my find backgrounds that expressed a little bit of her. The props are all of her personal items she has around her house.
Hope you enjoy and I will have a link so you can look and possibly purchase if you find something you like.

I had to add these shots. These rather politically incorrect scrubbers were a gift from me several years back. I saw them and knew that Carmen would love them. They were just to inappropriate to pass up. Now they are featured on my site for all to see.

The shot of the earrings is a great shot but has a flaw that makes it unusable for Carmen’s website. The clasp is twisted on one and the other shows that the clasp was not attached securely to the earring. These were later fixed in another shot of these same earrings. I learned a lesson about shooting for a client. Make sure the product looks right in the photo because no matter how good the quality of the photo is, if the product looks flawed then it is an unusable photo.

This was a lot of fun. I spent time in two gardens. I started to focus on small details and interesting shapes. The wrought iron and wood created excellent backgrounds to show of Carmen’s work. The photos were taken a few hours before sunset. It gave them the great texture and warm tones that make her pieces special.
